Applying eyeliner takes some concentration and a well-balanced hand. For beginners the easiest way is to start with an eyeliner pencil. Cat eye makeup is all about your eyeliner application and there are many variations to cat makeup. In order to avoid blotches when applying your cat eyes makeup, you will need to practice. Our guide to cat eye makeup will help show you the correct way to apply your cat makeup.

The dramatic eyeliner is the essential part of the look - trace a black liquid eyeliner right along your lashline - the line tapers away to nothing on the innermost corner and goes straight along your lashline to the outer corner. Keep the line smooth and strong (if you smudge, use a damp cotton tip to correct and touch up the mistake before the liner dries as some liquids tend to flake if they are touched up once they are dry).

Evenly apply the base makeup as usual to the entire eye. Use a lighter color as the base to allow the cat eye makeup to stand out more. Outline the ridge of the eyelid with a dark color. This will give the eyes more depth. Move the applicator up towards the corner of the eyebrow with the same color you used to outline the ridge of the eyelid. Make sure your line is straight and does not go past the corner of the eyebrow. The darker the line, the more noticeable the cat's eye.

The best way to make your eye shadows stay put on for longer is applying an eyeshadow base. Eyeshadow bases are nude eye base that glides on over the eyelid and create a perfect base for the eye shadow application. The bases stop your shadows from smudging, streaking and creasing by increasing the lasting-power of your shadows. A good eyeshadow base will not only prevent your shadows from creasing but it will also aid in blending the eyeshadows to perfection.

For a traditional cat-eye look, use a sharp eyeliner pencil and dot along the root of the lashes, from inner to outer eye, following the natural curve precisely. Stop at the point where your pupil ends and begin to subtly slant upward, carrying out the line as far as you like. In most cases, about a quarter of an inch looks good. Try slightly more if you're going for more drama.

Take a second to look at the shape of your eyes. Notice where your lash line ends and where your crease begins. You want to slant your eyeliner upwards. I recommend to start the slant about 2-3 eyelashes from the end of your lash line. This effect will give up an uplifted appearance and make you look 5 years younger

Now comes the fun part. Using the brush end of one of Lori’s all time favorite tools, the double-ended smudger brush #20; apply cream eye liner along the bottom lashline, making sure to smudge along the way. Then, using the same black shadow from twilight set your liner by applying shadow over the top using the same brush.
